Class by Sherman Alexie is about a native indian who meets a white woman and ends up marrying her. Throughout the story they describe how their marriage turned out after two years. During that time his wife was cheating on him and he knew the entire time. Instead of shaming her and cheating on her with a friend, he got into prostitutes. This eventually became an addiction and he had to stop. One day he went to an Indian bar where he got into a fight. Because of this fight he realized how ungrateful he was of the life he has.
This story was actually very entertaining. It described real situations and real world problems with much detail. It showed how into their problems a person can get, which makes them lose sight of hard the rest of the world has it. The main character was into his struggles so much that he began to be ungrateful of everything he had. In my opinion that is something that happens to everyone whether they notice or not.
I agree with you. Many people have problems that lie deeper than the surface, and you can never assume that everyone is going through the same things. I know many people from high school that are struggling with their own problems. Thats why i advise that everyone should be relaxed and understanding not only with others, but with themselves as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that the story was entertaining and that the main character was so engrossed in his world he couldn't appreciate what he had. It was a case of the grass being greener, where he believed he wanted to be apart of something because he never truly experience meanwhile the lady and her kids are starving to death. But I would have to say that he had his own misery with his wife cheating and the miscarriage, so it wasn't like he had no reason to be engrossed with the shortcoming of his life. Everyone plays the main character of their life so majority of the time their perception is focused on how life is going for them so I agree that whether people notices it or not they become slightly ungrateful for all the positives that could be happening as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is intriguing, and it makes sense that different people cope differently to the problems that they face in the world. Most people in this scenario would be so angry if they found out their partner was cheating, but this story shows the realistic reactions because not everyone reacts the same way. Its also funny how tangled people get into their problems, and instead of making it better they choose to make it worse and forget about everything that is actually happening to them.
ReplyDeleteYes I believe that Edward was ungrateful. But I dont think he should have gotten beaten up by the guy at the bar to realize that. It was stated in the story, Edward was once in the same position as they were, but because of hard work and luck he was able to make it out. But in the end, I think Edward learned his lesson and is able to get on with his life.
ReplyDeletepeople dont know what they truly have till its all gone. people in this world and ungrateful and do not know what they have till its gone. when that silver spoon is gone and the credit cards dont work any more then they will see what they have. people are blind dont know what hard work is. most rich people know how to spend money but hard work working Americans that makes this country strong they earn there money
